ZalAI — Delete Account

Preferred method: Delete your account directly from the app:
Settings → Account → Delete Account. This works instantly and does not require a manual review.

If you no longer have access to the app (lost device, uninstalled, can't sign in), use the request form below. We will process your request within 30 days as required by GDPR Article 17 and the Google Play Data Deletion Policy.

1. What gets deleted

Note about end-to-end encryption: Because your messages are encrypted on your devices with keys we never possess, the copies of your encrypted messages stored on other people's devices are not under our control. You may ask your contacts to delete their copies, but we cannot do this for you.

2. Method A — Delete from the app (recommended)

Open ZalAI on your phone.
Tap your avatar (top-left) → Settings.
Scroll to Account section.
Tap Delete Account (red text at bottom).
Read the warning, type your password to confirm, tap Delete forever.

Your account is removed from the server within seconds and the local database on your device is wiped. The action is not reversible.

3. Method B — Web request (no app access)

Use this form only if you cannot log into the app. We will verify the request by emailing the address you provide and may ask for additional proof of ownership (e.g., the original sign-up email).

✅ Your deletion request has been recorded. We have sent a confirmation email to the address you provided — please click the verification link within 7 days. After that, deletion will be completed within 30 days (usually within 24 hours).

❌ Could not submit request. Please email privacy@zalai.app directly with your JID.

4. Method C — Email request

If the form above does not work, send an email to privacy@zalai.app with the subject "Account Deletion Request" and include:

Your JID (e.g. alice@zalai.app)
A contact email for verification
Approximate date of account creation (helps us match the record)

5. Timeline & confirmation

Within 24 hours — we send a verification email to the contact address you provided.
Within 7 days — you must click the verification link (otherwise the request expires and no action is taken, to protect against malicious deletion attempts).
Within 30 days (usually within 24 hours of verification) — all data per the table above is removed from production servers.
Within 90 days — log retention period expires; any indirect data (access logs, anonymised crash reports) is fully purged.
Email confirmation is sent when deletion is complete.

6. Your other rights

Under GDPR (EU/EEA/UK/Swiss residents) and CCPA (California residents), in addition to deletion you also have the right to:

Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you
Rectification — correct inaccurate data
Portability — export your data in a machine-readable format
Restriction — temporarily limit processing
Objection — opt out of specific uses
Complaint — lodge with your national supervisory authority (e.g., CNIL, ICO, BfDI)
